Communicating Nile 1 Project Results Ethiopian Land and Water Management Strategies over 35 years Participants: Tilahun, Doug Merry, Peter Ballentyne and Michael Victor
The Nile 1 project has finalized a draft of its work. This was presented at the Nile inception workshop and met with great interest. Since this is the first research output of CPWF phase 2 and an important document in the Nile and beyond, it was agreed to develop strategy for its use both internally for the Nile projects and for external actors.
1. Final comments on the paper · All project leaders provide comments in the next two weeks (By September 18) · There should also be some discussion as to how results can be used in the projects · Doug to then finalize the paper.
2. Publication in Journals
Important that this is written up for journals and is one of the ouputs that is a deliverable. Discussed that Doug will write up journal articles for the following: 1. Ethiopian Journal of Natural Resources – important because Assistant to Deputy PM is editor. Tilahun is organizing. Article should be ready by November 2. Water Alternatives – This needs to be looked at. Alain/Sophie to discuss more with Doug and Francois to
3. Publication as a CWPF working paper · There is a need for some review of the article – Don Pedan and one Ethiopian will be selected (Tilahun and Michael to follow up on this). · Michael to discuss with Boru and Larry how to get the working paper out quickly if reviewed by all leaders and others. Working paper ideally published by end of year · Issue of payment of review was raised. Michael to follow up on this.
4. Development of CPWF Policy Briefs
There are 3 types of policy briefs identified: 1) Implementation strategies; 2) Rainwater management policies 3) Research issues
Doug is interested in working on this and thinks his counterpart could also put time in (extra time needed for writing). Doug to write up a proposal and send to Michael for costing of this and other activities not in original contract
5. Database of 400 references:
Doug has developed an important reference list and this will be put on the web by Peter Ballentyne and his team.
6. Short video and presentation at Africa World Water Week · Proposed that Doug to a short 5 minute overview of key lessons and recommendations that cane be placed on CPWF/ILRI you tube · Doug to make a presentation at Africa World Water week about the workshop
